Michael Lester Stevens
September 20, 1947 - March 1, 2008
Michael Stevens was born September 20, 1947 in Bellingham, WA, the son of Elrey & Irene Stevens. He moved to San Diego in 1965, attending Grossmont College and received an Associates Degree in Architectural Science. Michael later graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and was a member of several honor societies.
In 1967 Michael married Geraldean Conolly and together had two children, daughter Christine followed by son Michael.
Michael enjoyed a long-standing, highly respected position in the engineering community of San Diego having served more than 35 years. Michael was a registered civil engineer in several states.
Michael began his career working for Laurence Fogg Smith and Associates, and later co-establish Klagge, Stevens and Associates. During his career he worked for many prominate San Diego engineering firms, most recently for CE Prime Inc., as a construction litigation expert, and Principle Engineer.
During his esteemed career, he received numerous awards and professional recognition. He was an active member of the San Diego Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers. His service included: Section President, National Board member, Chair for National Convention and Treasurer.
Michael was active in his community serving on the Board of Directors of the Mission Valley YMCA; he coached and umpired Little League Baseball, and participated actively in Boy Scouts with his son.
Michael loved the great outdoors: hunting, fishing, skiing and camping. He was an artist at heart – he loved painting, carving, designing and building beautiful pieces of finely crafted furniture.
He is survived by his loving wife Charlotte; daughter Christine of Wenatchee, WA; son Michael of San Francisco, CA; stepdaughter Robin Fossett of Ramona, CA; stepsons Russ Driscoll of Lovettsville, VA and Quint Driscoll of Santee, CA; brother Mark of San Diego, CA; sister Linda Shales of Wenatchee, WA; sister Bette’ Gallina of Hillsboro, OR; many adoring nieces and nephews and 11 wonderful grandchildren.

Michael's family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in remembrance of Michael L. Stevens to the Sharp HealthCare Foundation, Rehabilitation Services General Fund. The gifts in Michael's memory will be earmarked towards the Rehabilitation Services Garden located on the hospital grounds. It serves as a peaceful respite for patients, friends and families while at the hospital.
